Far Out Thinking’s work is is highly innovative and, in working directly with them, I have found them to be exceptionally talented and conscientious. I have been following their work for about two years and have been very impressed by their imaginative and practical approach to problem solving. As a former researcher and current co-editor of a beekeeping publication (BeeCraft), I have worked with them closely on the Isles of Scilly Game of Drones project and have therefore seen the quality of their work up close. In reporting terms, I keep abreast of their other work – on the waggle dance, pollinator seed initiatives, moth identification and Asian hornet sentinel tracking – and have been extremely impressed at the way they have been able to engage the interest and action of academic researchers and commercial organisations.

Far Out Thinking volunteered their expert knowledge and experience to the project, successfully conducting our pilot ‘mark-release-recapture’ experiment on Scilly this summer with our partners at Bee Craft magazine, Wildflower Collective CIC and Tresco estate. They were valuable in helping us to build trust through engagement with the community – this was instrumental in making our project successful.

I am working with the Far Out Thinking Company to develop a rewilding tracking tool. A key gauge of the health of an ecosystem is its biodiversity and an increase in biodiversity allows for a better survival rate should any of the species in the area come under threat. This application brings together data from a wide range of sources that have previously been found in isolation and will allow the user to interrogate the information in a variety of ways such as ensuring that pollinator species will have access to appropriate food plants throughout their flight period and that their larvae can enjoy the required resources or gaps within the range of pollinators to increase the biodiversity.
